The Israel section was established in 1963 by a small group of policemen in the Tel Aviv district. The founder was Hans Shleimer who served at the time as a senior police officer at the Tel Aviv district.
Hans Shleimer contacted the international secretariat, requesting to establish a branch of the organization in Israel. Once membership was approved, the small branch of the international organization began intensive activities and operation, involving District Commanders and Inspector Generals, with two Police Commissioners even serving as IPA Presidents: Police Commissioner Arie Ivtzan and Police Commissioner David Kraus.
The Israeli IPA branch currently includes 23,000 members, and is the third largest branch in the world, after Germany and Austria. The Israel section is considered the leader in the ratio between the organization’s size and size of the police force, and also has an impressive increase in the number of members, scope of activities and national contribution.
IPA Israel members are part of an organization that includes policemen, prison wardens, civil guard volunteers and pensioners. IPA membership supports visits abroad of official delegations to international conferences, sports competitions and professional meetings. In parallel, IPA members in Israel host delegations from abroad, hold receptions and form friendly relations and ties with policemen from throughout the world.
IPA Israel members participate in a wide variety of activities at the national and local levels, and receive a valuable annual gift selected by branch members and representatives. Members enjoy gifts from the local branch, unique events, sports activities, competitions and groups, social activities, fun days, trips, culture, welfare and more.
